Words of Wizdom

Step behind the velvet rope with Wiz at STIIIZY HQ as he drops Point Breeze. A rare sit-down with the man himself—only in Hiii. This one’s for real connoisseurs.

STICKY FINGERS

I have been looking forward to this for weeks. Before I even crack open the jar of Khalifa Kush’s new strain, Point Breeze, I know this will be a show-stopper—and likely a risky choice for anyone who lacks a high(er) tolerance.

The jar pop of this indoor-grown hybrid reveals notes of sweet and sour, gassy funk. I’m getting Blue Raspberry Now-And-Later fruit chews. A lawnmower idling in the front yard on a Spring day. Fruity (grape, lemon, etc) popsicles being sold out of an ice cream truck. Pool toys, pepper, and pine trees. The sense of nostalgia this scent evokes is unexpected, to say the least. It’s a little like mixing together Blue Dream, OG Kush, and a handful of Sour Skittles.

I find Point Breeze’s gorgeous, mint green buds to be dense and clingy, coated with enough kief and resin to make my fingers stick. The dry hit is packed with more sweet diesel but I detect some bitter grapefruit, soap, and car wax, too. It’s a smooth burn, as it has been well-manicured and properly cured. It finishes with some bitter lemon sweetness on the lips. The terps include myrcene, limonene, B-caryophyllene, and linalool.

It’s a buzzy high. It’s not nearly as overpowering as I’d have imagined and works pretty well as an all-day smoke, especially if your usage habits tend to err on the heavier side. I’m left fully functional and appreciative of how everything around me—sonically, visually, or otherwise—seems to be just a bit more vibrant than it was before. Outside of some minor dry eye and mouth, there are no real downsides to this one.

Now it’s time to meet The Man.

STIIIZY HQ, DTLA

The line stretches around the block. They are here to meet Wiz—and be the first to buy Point Breeze. I get it. There is a non-zero chance that I’ve listened to more Wiz Khalifa while partaking than any other artist. Sure, I’d chalk much of that up to the veritable stranglehold he had on my ears in the early-2010s but The Man simply does not stop—with seven solo studio albums, five collab albums, and (a staggering) twenty-one mix-tapes now under his belt, 2025 is shaping up to be Wiz’s year yet again. After launching Point Breeze, he’ll embark on a twenty-city tour, and drop the most anticipated stoner rap sequel of all-time with Kush & Orange Juice 2.

Wiz arrives and the massive dispensary becomes electric, buzzing with anticipation. He makes his way over to me for a quick chat. I quip that celebrity cannabis brands tend to be hit or miss. What makes your brand different? “Values,” he says. “Namely, a leadership team with a true passion for the power of this plant.”

Moreover, Wiz is as engaged in the process as you can get. He’s militant about ensuring that the highest-possible quality products imaginable are deemed worthy of carrying his namesake, with every new strain being hand-selected by him. Even the name, Point Breeze, is a nod to the neighborhood in his native Pittsburgh, where the brand’s journey began—and they still operate today.

Roots. Family. Eat your heart out, Dominic Toretto.

He’s militant about ensuring that the highest-possible quality products imaginable are deemed worthy of carrying his namesake.

And that degree of care has been paying dividends. Khalifa Kush generated $50M+ in 2024 across eight states, officially making it the most successful celebrity brand in all of cannabis. Khalifa Kush has come a long way since it first hit the market almost a decade ago, now offering jarred flower, pre-rolls, vapes, a full streetwear collection, and his signature Khalifa rolling papers, which I’ve been utilizing almost exclusively over the past month. They’re thin, easy to roll, burn slow, and, most critically, won’t itch your throat when you take a hit. The Wiz abides.

In our short time together—he has hundreds of autographs and photos to take—we discuss everything from his deep passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Thai Boxing (“you’ve got to dive in and experience it yourself to fall in love with it...start now!”) to his favorite spot to get high in SoCal (“my house in the Valley”). He’s apparently also a shark at billiards and one hell of a bowler.

I find Wiz to be down-to-earth and relatable as he shares his appreciation for what I also believe to be a modern cinema classic, potentially the magnum opus of all Happy Madison flicks, the 2006 Allen Covert, Nick Swardson, and Linda Cardellini masterpiece Grandma’s Boy. (Seriously, ignore the 15% on Rotten Tomatoes and prepare to laugh until it hurts.)

THE WHITE WHALE

I ask him if he has a “white whale” strain, one that he loved but hasn’t been able to find anymore. Wiz assures me that he’s caught his white whale; it’s Khalifa Kush, which was developed by Compound Genetics for his personal use years before it was ever commercialized. This team is endlessly working on new breeding projects derived from the original KK strain.

Point Breeze follows in the footsteps of their stellar Baby Turtle, Khalifa Mints, Violet Sky and classic KK releases. I was also at the launch event for Violet Sky (Khalifa Mints x Gastro Pop) and have to say, I’ve rarely ever encountered cultivars that pack such a potent punch. I took Violet Sky on a trip to the Midwest to visit my life-long smoking buddy, the guy I’ve always gone toke-for-toke with since college. To my surprise, he had to tap out after hitting his limit. I didn’t even know that was possible!

But would you expect anything less from Wiz? The potency comes with the territory. And I’m ecstatic to see that Point Breeze utilizes more of that mighty Gastro Pop. It’s a perfect pairing for being a passenger on a long road trip, one where you can turn your mind off, not feel pressured to talk, and be captivated by your changing surroundings. Let the music or podcast take hold and appreciate the journey. If you’re around the LA area, it should pair nicely with a cruise up Highway 1 to Nobu in Malibu, one of Wiz’s favorite haunts.

No car? Grab a fan, some over-the-ear headphones, and throw on one of those HD YouTube videos shot from the front of a European train as it cascades through the mountains.

WIZDOM

The crowd’s getting antsy and our time is coming to an end. Wiz’s answer to my final question, if he had any advice, any words of wisdom for our audience, was as direct as you can get: “Smoke weed everyday.”

Hey, you don’t have to tell me twice. Grab some Point Breeze and roll one up…and if you can’t smoke, rest assured, as Khalifa Kush has a beverage on the way.

Does this dude ever sleep?

THE STIGMA IS REAL

In July 2024, Wiz was arrested in Romania for illegal drug possession following an incident where he smoked cannabis onstage during a concert.
